Wired NextFest

September 28th, 2008

Today I just came back from Wired Nextfest which took place at Millenium Park in Chicago.  It didn’t go quite as well as we wanted since we had planned to present three demos and got only one and a half of them to work due to some hardware issues and just generally being unprepared. Quite a pity considering a lot of press like NBC and FOX news was there.  Because of it though Wired Nextfest for me pretty much was just four days straight of sitting behind a laptop computer without much sleep. Anyways, I did get a chance to walk around for a little bit.  Some of the other robot stuff I saw was Zeno, a 17″ tall little humanoid character robot that can talk and walk. Its face is soft so it can even make facial expressions.  I met this kid with one arm, his other appendages being prosthetics. Alinea is a restaurant where a meal can consist of up to 27 courses with funky serving ware from Crucial Detial Design Studio. Lots of pretty cool techy stuff.

The first night of Wired was invite only. Attendees were high profile people, or elite class of Chicago. An interesting crowd I have to say. The highlight of my Wired experience must’ve been these models that were there that night. I bet they were hired by Wired magazine to walk around, although I like to believe hot babes are into nerds and technology… yeah…
